The idea for creating a trail for safe bicycling, jogging and walking began after Bert Valery, a longtime Pinellas County resident, lost his son in a tragic bicycling accident. Bert's passion led him to work with other Pinellas County bicycle enthusiasts to convert the 34-mile corridor of abandoned CSX railroad tracks to a useable recreational trail. The idea grew to today's 47-mile trail, which is used by 70,000 people each month.
