Sandy Magditz - We Care Award

Sandy Magditz, our Gift Shoppe Attendant, has been a loyal, caring, and exceptional employee of The Don CeSar for over 23 years. Earlier this year, one of the highlights during our Davidson/Pivot Annual Leadership Conference was honoring Sandy as the winner of the 2017 We Care Award for her many selfless contributions to everyone around her. This award is given each year to one team member among the entire company who is selected for having shown "out of the ordinary" works by giving or assisting another team member and/or someone in the community who is in need. Acts of this kind are like second nature to Sandy. She is a wonderful woman who embodies our core value of letting love and intuition inform our decisions. She has become a well-recognized individual the community and has a gift of enriching the lives of everyone around her and is always putting the necessities of others before her own. In celebrations and during hard times you know she will be right there with you, next to you cheering, lending a hand or a shoulder to cry on.

 

Sandy has an amazing humanitarian spirit for not only her fellow team members, but also our guests. A day does not go by without a guest sharing their story about her and the relationship they had over the years. The list of examples showing her team member love and overall generosity for others is never ending. Recently she has helped a coworker learn the questions for a citizenship test and then at the courthouse during the ceremony, she sat right there in the front row to show her support. She has organized baby showers, surprise birthday parties, taken care of abandoned kittens until she could find them a home. Helped fellow employees to schedule doctor appointments and even taken them to the visits herself. Often times you can bump into her at the neighborhood Walmart and see her cart full of groceries and baby supplies for other team members who are in need. Each morning she usually has a little present for someone in the hotel and it doesn't matter who's birthday it is she will find a unique and typically funny little present to give them with a card showing her love. The list and stories of her kind acts go on and on.

 

In a recent employee interview we asked various members of our team "What is one thing you in your role that no one would guess you did?" A fairly straightforward question that most replied to with a behind the scenes task they perform or an unusual request they have done for a guest, but when we asked Sandy this questions, her answer was quite different. She said "Help my fellow teammates here and outside of the Don". And when asked to describe the Don she replied with "My Home Away From Home".

 

Sandy’s unwavering devotion to The Don CeSar team, guests, and the community we reside in exemplifies her caring and loving devotion. Sandy inspires us all to be a better version of ourselves, and serve with the most genuine form of love.
